- The work documents the process of metal transformation through forging, where the iron mass interacts with the surrounding space. The composition is based on the tension between the weight of the material and the openness of the forms, creating a balance where void and matter coexist. The integration of the raw wooden base marks a point in Chillida's production where the support becomes an integral part of the sculpture's configuration. The work explores the limits of form and volume, where the metal defines the space and the space, in turn, gives meaning to the forged mass. This model, of which a bronze-cast variant exists in the IVAM collection, exemplifies the artist's investigation into the physical properties of iron and its relationship with poetic abstraction.
