Originally from the town of Morazzone, he was moved to Rome during his childhood. A disciple of Salimbeni and the Cavaliere d' Arpino, Mazzucchelli returned to Lombardy in 1602, where he worked in the following years. He is a representative figure of late Lombard Mannerism, although in his works one can appreciate the artist's attention to naturalistic accents, and later, to the Emilian pictorial reform.
This work represents the miracle of the conversion of water into wine, the first miracle performed by Christ. It takes place within the framework of a wedding in the region of Cana, Galilee, which his disciples and his mother also attend. At one point there was a shortage of wine, so Jesus ordered six stone jars to be filled with water; When they tasted the liquid inside, it turned out to be not water, but a wine of the best quality.
