Toni CatanyThe body, the gaze, the memory

May 15, 2025 / July 18, 2025

In collaboration with the Toni Catany Foundation

These photographs by Toni Catany offer a thoughtful gaze at the human body through the lens of a quest for beauty. His vision, the result of a rich cultural background, captivates us. His perception is nourished by memories of lived experiences, his passion for travel, for art and for his beloved Mediterranean.
In this exhibition, his photographs will engage in a suggestive dialogue with works from the Artur Ramon Art collection. A dialogue between eras, techniques and kindred sensibilities.

“When we look closely at his photos, they inevitably evoke great works of art. His powerful, agitated bodies bring to mind Michelangelo’s Slaves or the mighty Belvedere Torso. They are Herculean figures, stirred by an unsettled inner spirit, bearing the musicality of Beethoven’s most passionate works. These are bodies that, like Hercules, often wrestle with beasts that are, in truth, symbolic of an internal struggle—a battle with the denied primal self. It is a captive beauty, one that captivates us, a beauty in bondage, latent in contorted forms, just like Michelangelo’s Slaves or some of Catany’s photographs.”
