Homage to Maria Lluïsa Borràs
The exhibition reviewed the work of the artist Dominica Sánchez from Barcelona and, at the same time, it was a tribute to the art critic Maria Lluïsa Borràs, who presented some of these pieces in 2002 at the exhibition Paisatges Íntims and Spirituals of the Painting Museum of Sant Pol de Mar. This exhibition was a journey through time that went beyond the work of Dominica Sánchez and wanted to bring us closer to a moment and a generation through 12 sculptures and twenty works in wood, pastel, charcoal, paper and oil.
It was a retrospective look at the work of Dominica Sánchez from around 2002, the time when the gallery became aware of her work thanks to the aforementioned exhibition. With Dominica Sánchez. Painting, drawing and sculpture of the 2000s recovered her work of 20 years ago as a crystallization of the artist’s time and the vindication of painting as life, of the many paths that open between experience life and painting.
“The austere and rigorous aesthetics of Dominica Sánchez’s work is born from the collective difficulty of the post-war period and the repression she experienced closely from that time of her childhood, straddling the forties and fifties of the last century. The paintings collect the artist’s time and pour it out to the viewer.”
