Biografia

Segundo Matilla moved to Barcelona in the early years of his life. He studied at Lonja with Antoni Caba. He was a great friend of Baldomer Galofré and Meifren. He painted in the company of Eliseu Meifren, hence the painting of both is very similar in the use of light and the rapid invoice of a clear impressionist concept. He was a regular exhibitor at the Sala Parés since 1889, with great critical and public success at the individual ones held in 1907 and 1914. The theme of his work is landscapes and seascapes, basically themes from Cadaqués, but it is also necessary to emphasize his portraiture side. Works by Segundo Matilla are preserved in the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona.
