Biografia

Toni Catany (Llucmajor, 1942 – Barcelona, 2013) was a self-taught photographer internationally recognized for his personal and poetic vision. He became interested in photography in the 1950s through a correspondence course. By the late 1960s, he began working with techniques like calotype and focused on subjects such as still lifes, nudes, portraits, and the Mediterranean landscape. Throughout his career, he held over one hundred solo exhibitions around the world and published numerous books, some award-winning, such as Natures Mortes (1987), La meva Mediterrània (1990), and Fotografies (1997). He received several major awards, including Spain’s National Photography Prize (2001) and the Ramon Llull Prize (2003). In his later years, he worked to establish the Toni Catany Foundation in Llucmajor, aiming to preserve and promote his photographic legacy. Despite institutional delays, the project moved forward after his death. Until the very end of his life, he remained an active and passionate creator.
