This work is situated in the second phase of the artist sojourns in the small town of Céret. The French Pyrenees region was a place of interest and inspiration for many international artists, and has a continued tradition of being a home for painters, sculptors, composers and poets. It has hence attracted a considerable number of artists who called themselves "Group of Ceret" or "School of Ceret" (unfortunately dispersed by the beginning of the Great War), including, among others, Picasso, Juan Gris, and Déodat de Séverac, French composer to whom Hugué dedicated a stone statue La petite catalane in 1923 in the same town.
