  This is one of the painter's best known portraits. It was painted during his stay in Rome; a portrait very similar to the present one, from a year earlier, was also painted during this period. The clear influence of his masters Caba and Lorenzale, who were master portrait painters, can be noticed. The light and subtlety of Sorolla can also be appreciated, as well as the realism of Miralles and Baixeres. The influences of the great artists of the time converged in Barrau, creating a very special artist who left works of undeniable quality.
