  This painting beautifully exemplifies the artist's signature style of serene, detailed landscapes. It was created around 1889 in Alcalá de Guadaíra, a location where he often worked during the winter months. That same year, he completed a painting titled Guadaíra, which received a second-class medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris.
  
  Our work was probably painted in the same year and depicts the same scene from a different viewpoint. The Guadaíra River, which he depicted on numerous occasions, became a recurring motif in his work. Paintings from this period are considered among the finest of the artist's career.
