Biografia

Francesca Piñol lives and works in Barcelona. Trained in Anthropology at the University of Barcelona, with postgraduate studies in textile design, African studies and art therapy, she has developed a practice that brings together research, technology and textile traditions. She pursued further studies in Copenhagen and at the CIETA in Lyon, and has been selected for residencies such as Contextile (2012) and the Arctic Circle programme (2015, 2024). Her work explores the symbolic depth of textiles and the expressive power of interwoven threads, translating natural and neural landscapes into woven images using digital Jacquard technology and natural dyes. Following her Arctic expedition she created the series “Marques d’aigua” and the audiovisual “White Silence”, while her Art and Neuroscience project received an honourable mention at Art of Neuroscience 2018. She combines artistic creation with teaching and research at her Textile Laboratory.
